Visiting South Island, New Zealand Is A Must

An island packed with snow-capped mountains, ancient glaciers, rolling hills, and copious amounts of wine, South Island is definitely worth visiting. New Zealand is tucked away in the corner of the world and considered one of the world’s most sought-after destinations. Furthermore, if you want to be a witness to some of the world’s most natural beauty, and you have a decent budget, then New Zealand should be your next vacation getaway.

Well, it should be noted that the flights aren’t cheap, and the accommodation isn’t either, but it is truly worth the once in a lifetime experience. The country has seen a boom in tourism in the past few years. The forests of the region are home to friendly kiwis and an overall pleasant atmosphere.

Today, I will help you with your trip to New Zealand.

Let’s have a look at the reasons why it should be on your travel list.

• Glacier Trekking

Past travelers have stated that nothing is better than trekking or hiking at the Franz Joseph glacier, as it is an unforgettable experience. They are absolutely right, as when you pass through this area, you won’t regret your decision after seeing one of the most gorgeous glaciers on earth.

If you would rather not trek, you can also have a ride in a helicopter to view the glacier from above. Pilots usually charge only 200 NZD, and it is worth it in my opinion. But, of course, I recommend hiking to the glacier as you’ll be able to take more photos and be face to face with the beauty that nature offers.

• Adventurous activities

Do you love doing adventurous activities? If yes, then New Zealand should be your next vacation gateway. It is also considered one of the most adventurous places in the world. You can enjoy a wide range of exciting activities such as bungy jumping, skydiving, white-water rafting,  zorbing, paragliding, transalpine hiking, and so much more.

If you want to have a ride in Shotover jets, then you must visit Queenstown. If you are a real thrill-seeker, then you must try the Nevis Bungy jump as it is the highest in the world.

• Explore Maori culture

The Maoris arrived in New Zealand during the early 13th century, and the Maoris people are considered the true inhabitants of the region. If you are interested in history, then exploring Maoris culture and history will truly be enjoyable, and if you’re lucky you may even see a performance.

Maori people are friendly and proud and you’ll feel right at home. Rotorua, Waitangi Treaty Grounds, Tane Mahuta, and the Te Papa museum in Wellington are some of the best places to explore Maoris history.

• Glow Worms

One of the best things to do in New Zealand is to check out the Waitomo glow worm cave. When you walk into the darkness and float down the river, you will find the light-covered caverns that look like stars. But actually, they are gnats that glow due to a chemical reaction.

The abseil’s three hours tour will cost you around 150 NZD, and for a five hours tour, you may have to pay 260 NZD. In my opinion, a three hours tour is enough, as you’re able to explore and see so much in that time, but of course, you may be so captivated by its beauty that you’ll want to spend more time.

• Island Fun

If you want to have a bit of nightlife, you should plan a one-day trip to Stewart Island. On the island, you will see gorgeous sea views, beaches, dozens of fabulous buildings, resorts, bars, party clubs, and much more. It is the perfect spot for youngsters to spend an unforgettable evening, partying, and enjoying the kiwi lifestyle.

Conclusion

There are lots more things to do and explore in the region. However, the above-listed places are some of the main reasons why New Zealand should be your next vacation gateway. If you’re looking for natural beauty, thrills, and even some nightlife, South Island, New Zealand is the place for you.
