JOURNAL: Ricks Cafe, Jamaica

Jamaica is known for its sandy white beaches, blue waters and of course its delicious jerk chicken. So while there we had to make a stop at the world’s famous Rick’s Cafe!

Rick’s Cafe is in Negril and is one of Jamaica’s most famous hot spots. It’s technically a bar and restaurant, but most folks tend to visit to go cliff jumping and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. The cliff is about 35 feet high and if you arrive before sunset you will see both men and women of ranging ages jumping off the edge. Unfortunately I wasn’t brave enough to tackle the dive this time around as it seemed a bit too high for my taste. However, there were many other brave and adventurous souls that jumped off the cliff, not once but two or three times.  Just watching them jump you can still feel the adrenaline rush and excitement.

After watching the cliff diving we set out to grab a table in the restaurant and have dinner before sunset. We ordered some jerk chicken skewers, buffalo wings, Jamaican patties, rasta pasta, escovitch snapper and a vegetarian medley. Although the service was rather slow, it actually worked to our advantage as it gave us time to take additional pictures as a group, chat and just sit back, have a cocktail and enjoy the scenery. When we got our meals the band started playing live music as the sun was starting to set, playing well known hits as well as other Bob Marley favorites. The sunset is also another highlight of the spot so make sure you stay for that.

If you are ever in Jamaica, make sure that you put Rick’s Cafe on your list of spots to visit!
